Madden NFL 08 is the third installment in the series to be released for the PlayStation Portable. It is very similar to the version released the year before and retains most of its modes while introducing a new one. Additionally, it includes some of the additional features that were introduced in the console versions of the game. The “play now” mode, the franchise mode (which features a revamped interface), practice mode, and mini-camp mode are all returning. The “End 2 End” minigame from the previous year has been replaced with the new “Superstar Challenge” mode. The game puts players in various authentic scenarios based on matches from the 2006 NFL season and challenges them to imitate the acts of notable players, such as scoring touchdowns in the last seconds of the game or throwing long throws. The new “weapon” system that was introduced on the consoles has been ported over to this iteration, enabling players to more efficiently check for mismatches at the line. Ad-hoc and online multiplayer as well as connectivity to the PS2 version, which allows franchises to to be transferred between the two platforms, are both elements that are returning.
