Shin Sangoku Musou is the first game to usher in the glorious era of the Dynasty Warriors series. With a story inspired by the novel Three Kingdoms, which talks about the power struggle of the three ancient kingdoms of China. Common characters are in one of three factions including Wei, Wu and Shu (although there are also other characters from other factions, but not many). Because this version has a 3D weapons-based combat system with 1-on-1 mechanism (similar to the Tekken, Soul Edge or Star Gladiator). The modes are also more diverse, completing these modes to unlock more characters. In a battle, the player controls his or her pre-selected character, using the basic buttons to perform four normal attacks. When the analogue stick is full, the character can use his special move. Each character will accumulate experience points for each battle. Once enough points are accumulated, their level increases and the character’s stats as well as the bodyguards accompanying them increase. Points are also earned in Musou and Free modes. Although there are a variety of characters and weapons, a minus point in this game is that horses are the only means of transportation that can be used.
