Hadrianus, a former Roman Emperor, has not been seen for some time, and the empire is anxious to learn whether he is still alive or has passed away. To fulfill this goal, the kingdom employs a mercenary to search. The role of this mercenary is one that the player takes on. The player can select from one of four distinct classes, such as a highlander, gladiator, or dark seeker; these classes each have different values for the will, strength, vitality, and agility statistics. The players are presented with a map and allowed to explore several labyrinths of varying degrees of challenge. The players must use their weapons to defend themselves against the various monsters that populate these dungeons. During combat, players can inflict and suffer from multiple status ailments, such as paralysis, poison, and terror. Players can also use items attached to their belts, such as bombs, sacred water, and heal nuts. When players take down a monster, they gain experience points that can be used to level up their character. The player earns ability points as they go through levels, and can be used to level up various skills. There includes a single-player campaign, a dungeon mode, and a multiplayer mode in addition to the primary campaign.
